In the Hebrew bible, the moon marked the change in season, the new moon was a day when prophets heard from Yahweh, and was significant. So it was like God's clock. Basically from the new moon to the new moon is a month. Don't get sucked into pagan crap though, but according to the bible the moon and sun and stars are for signs and to mark seasons. This does NOT mean astrology is ok, and all that crap. The new moon marked the feast of trumpets(Leviticus 23:24-25) The bible tells us that the son and moon are to give light, and that they and the stars are for signs, and for seasons, etc.

Luke 21:25

“And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves"

Psalm 81:3
Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

Isaiah 66:23
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.

Psalm 104:19
He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.”

Ezekiel 46:1
Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened.

Leviticus 23:24-25
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. 25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

Colossians 2:16-17
King James Version 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

The feast of trumpets took place on the first day of the 7th month.

Genesis 1:14 kjv
And God said
, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Ecclesiastes 3: 1
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. 9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? 10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. 11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

Amos 5:8

Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:”

Isaiah 34:4

The sun, moon, and stars will crumble to dust. The sky will disappear like a scroll being rolled up, and the stars will fall like leaves dropping from a vine or a fig tree.

Job 9:9 KJV

Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, And the chambers of the south.

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above ( son, moon, stars ), nor the earth beneath. Thou shalt not bow down thy-selves to them, nor serve them. [ We don't turn them into idols,

but we don't insult his handywork either. ]

Some more of the signs the bible talks above:

Isaiah 13:10

For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not flash forth their light; The sun will be darken when it rises And the moon will not shed its light.

Amos 8:9

“It will come about in that day,” declares the Lord God,“That I will make the sun go down at noon, And make the earth dark in broad daylight.

Bible symbolism: Symbolically, stars in the bible represent angels. The five pointed star that pagans use is a graven image, made in the likeness of that which is in the earth beneath, which because it is a violation of the second commandment, an only be symbolic of a fallen angel, which makes sense why it is a pagan and satanic symbol. It represents Lucifer ( the five pointed star specifically ) In the first chapter of revelation they represent the seven angels of the seven churches, but that's not a five pointed star it's talking about. See my page on the second commandment to learn more about this.

Revelation 1:16

And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Revelation 1:20

The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
